How to Choose the Perfect Granite Slab for Your Kitchen or Bathroom Remodel

Practice Due Diligence

Selecting a granite slab is one of the most exciting parts of a remodel, but it can also feel overwhelming if you’re not sure where to start. Here’s a simple guide to help you make the best choice for your home.

1. Consider the Overall Style of Your Space

Think about your cabinet color, flooring, wall paint, and appliances. Do you want a bold statement slab or something subtle and neutral? For example, white cabinets pair beautifully with dramatic black or veined granite, while warm, wood tones look great with earthy, speckled granite patterns.

2. Look at Multiple Slabs in Person

Because granite is natural stone, no two slabs are identical. Visiting our showroom allows you to compare veining patterns, see color shifts in different lighting, and choose the exact slab that will be installed. This is an important step, especially for bold or highly veined stones.

3. Check the Thickness of the Slab

Granite typically comes in 2cm or 3cm thickness. 3cm slabs offer more presence and strength, while 2cm slabs can be more budget-friendly. Your fabricator can guide you on what works best for your layout.

4. Pay Attention to the Finish

Granite finishes include polished, which is shiny and reflective, honed, which gives it a smooth and matte look, and leathered, which is more textured and modern. Each finish gives the stone a different personality and maintenance level.

5. Ask About Sealing & Maintenance

Granite is long-lasting when properly sealed. When shopping, ask your installer how often it should be sealed, what cleaners should be used, and if it requires any special care. HC Granite provides detailed care instructions with every installation.
